ISO/IEC 17025:2017 (NABL) Certification for Rubber & Rubber Products
Rubber and Rubber Products
Rubber is not an alien word to anyone nowadays. It is a materials that can be seen and is used almost everywhere in the domestic as well as industrial front. The elastics and shock absorbing properties of rubber make it an ideal raw material for making a lot of products that are further used in different industries. The products that are made from rubber are numerous including tyres, gaskets, seals, shock mounts to name a few.
Rubber is of mainly two types that is natural rubber and synthetic rubber. The natural rubber is a resin called latex that is obtained from trees. The chemical name for latex is polyisoprene. The rubber latex that is obtained from plants in its natural form is in liquid state. It is then processed to increase its solidity, strength and elasticity. This process of strengthening of latex is called vulcanization. In this process, the latex is heated and then sulphur is added to it. This helps in increasing the strength as well as the elasticity of the latex. The final product obtained after vulcanization is rubber. The amount of sulphur added to the latex determines the degree of its strength and elasticity. In addition to sulphur, there are various accelerators, catalysts and other agents added to the process to obtain different properties of Rubber.
The synthetic rubber is synthesised in industries with the use of different chemicals. The synthetic rubber is higher in strength as compared to natural rubber and hence is better for industrial purpose where more strength and other properties are required such as conveyor belts. Different types of rubber that are synthesised in the industries include Styrene Butadiene, Poly Butadiene, Butyl, Ethylene-propylene, polychloroprene, nitrile, silicone and so forth. The usage of this synthetic rubber depends on different factors such as gas permeability, oil resistance, solvent resistance, weathering, elasticity, compressive strength and tensile strength. Different products that are made from synthetic rubber include moulded products, rolls, gloves, sponge, footwear, adhesives, toys, transmission belts and so forth.
As the usage of the rubber products is critical in many aspects, it is essential that the quality of the products is top notch. Any glitch in the quality can lead to failure of the products and result in severe accidents in the industry. There are different aspects of rubber quality that must be tested for best quality assurance. The tensile strength is the ability of rubber to take tension. The elasticity of the rubber refers to the extent to which the rubber can be extended without breaking. Compressive strength is the amount compressive force that the rubber can bear without failure. In addition to these, there are other properties as well that must be tested during quality assurance.
During the quality testing of rubber products it must be ensured that the procedures are being followed properly such as the samples are prepared according to standard and the test is conducted according to standards. To ensure this, a lab with NABL accreditation should be chose for testing that has certification for ISO 17025:2017. It is a certification standard set by ISO for laboratories that ensures that labs are following standard testing procedures with full efficiency to give accurate and trusted test results.
